Asia Cup 2022 Winner
Asia Cup 2022 saw a see-saw battle between six teams:
- India
- Pakistan
- Sri Lanka
- Afghanistan
- Bangladesh
- Hong Kong
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan entered the last four. However, the seven-time champions suffered back-to-back losses to Sri Lanka and arch-rivals Pakistan and were eventually eliminated from the tournament. Pakistan and Sri Lanka met in the tournament’s final. The Lankans, who had lost their opening match in the tournament, overcame Pakistan to find a place in the Asia Cup winner list for the sixth time.
At the time, Sri Lanka was going through some hard times as it had declared bankruptcy. But this win ensured that the Lankans basked in the glory with such a crisis in the backdrop looming large.
Concluding Thoughts
Usually, whoever wins the Asia Cup is the new giant of world cricket. Big teams must get across each other and surpass the challenge posed by teams like Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
But if you look at the history, you can see the dominance posed by India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan here. Cricket fans will be hoping that in the upcoming Asia Cup, the likes of Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be able to trouble the well-established top three.
