.2019 ODI World Cup

The 2019 World Cup saw both teams meet in the league stage. It was the opening match for India in the tournament, while South Africa was playing its third match in the campaign. India made a statement with the whole bowling line-up firing in unison. Yuzvendra Chahal picked up four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up two wickets each. South Africa was restricted to 227/9. In reply, Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten at 122 as India won the match by six wickets.

.2015 ODI World Cup 

India broke their duck in the INDv SA head-to-head record in the 2015 World Cup group stage fixture in Melbourne. Riding on Shikhar Dhawan’s 137 and Ajinkya Rahane’s 79,  the ‘Men in Blue’ posted a humongous 307/7 after opting to bat first. The Proteas were never in chase, as the three-time ODI World Cup semi-finalists were all out for 177. Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets, while Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma also shone with the ball.

.2011 ODI World Cup

It was the first time in 10 years an ODI World Cup fixture was added to the India vs South Africa head-to-head ODI record. The 2011 World Cup group stage clash saw India batting first in Nagpur, where Sachin Tendulkar scored 111.  Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were also among the runs. However, once three departed, the innings collapsed, and the hosts were all out for 296. South Africa, in reply, was led by Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, and AB de Villers, who all hit fifties. The Proteas chased down the total in the last over with three wickets to spare

.1999 ODI World Cup

The second match in the IND vs SA head-to-head meeting in the World Cup was held in Hove, England. India batted first and made 253/5 thanks to Sourav Ganguly’s 97. South Africa’s run chase began poorly, with both opening batters departing quickly. Jacques Kallis led the recovery, and the all-rounder’s 96 and vital contributions from Mark Boucher and Jonty Rhodes saw them clinch the win in the 48th over. 

.1992 ODI World Cup 

The 1992 World Cup was the first time IND vs SA head-to-head record began in the World Cup. In a rain-affected match, India, put to bat first, made 180 courtesy of Mohammad Azharuddin’s 79. South Africa started the run chase grandly. Peter Kirsten and Andrew Hudson added 128 runs for the first wicket. The Proteas wrapped up the run chase with five balls to spare.
