ODI World Cup 2023 Teams | Full Details & Squad

Ten teams will take part in the tournament. Let’s take a look at all the ten teams, along with their squad details.

India:

India is the host country and a contender among the ODI World Cup 2023 teams. Moreover, they are expected to know the conditions inside and out.

They will have some serious challenges against the likes of Australia, Pakistan, and England, but fans are hoping that they will come out of these challenges stronger than ever.

 Squad:

We don’t have the official squad as of now, but we have provided a probable squad:

Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Mohmmed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan (wk), Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, Shardul Thakur, Jaydev Unadkat, Mukesh Kumar

Pakistan:

A fresh and rested Pakistan is the second in the ODI World Cup 2023 teams list. Under the leadership of Babar Azam, Pakistan is expected to come hard at other teams.

Most of their players are out of the limelight, rested, and therefore hungry for some success.

Squad:

We still don’t have a final squad, but have provided a probable squad:

Babar Azam (Captain), Shadab Khan (Vice-Captain), Mohammad Rizwan (Wicket-keeper), Mohammad Haris (Wicket-keeper), Imad Wasim, Imam-ul-Haq, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Abdullah Shaffiqu, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Ihsanullah, Shan Masood, Salman Agha, Tayyab Tahir, Usama Mir

Australia:

Under Pat Cummins, Australia would look to emulate the performance of yesteryear, when they won five ODI World Cups.

On Indian soil, Aussies will have to play out of their skins to make an impact on these pitches. However, here it must be mentioned that most of the Aussie players’ IPL experience will come in handy.

Squad:

Australia is only the second among the ODI World Cup 2023 teams to have named their squad for ODI World Cup 2023:

Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

England:

The defending champions will have to up their game on Indian soil, where the pitches have never favored them historically.

However, they have one of the most settled units among the ODI World Cup 2023 teams. And with Ben Stokes coming out of retirement, they look like a solid unit, to say the least.

Just like Australia, most of the English players have IPL experience and this would surely help.

Squad:

Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.

New Zealand:

Known as the Blackcaps, New Zealand has yet to announce their squad for the ODI World Cup. However, take them lightly at your own peril, as they have reached the finals of the tournament twice.

Their fans would be hoping that this time they would reach the final for the third time and win their maiden World Cup.

Squad:

Here’s their probable squad:

Kane Williamson (c), Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santner, Glenn Phillips, Jimmy Neesham, Daryl Mitchell, Adam Milne, Martin Guptill, Lockie Ferguson, Devon Conway, Mark Chapman, Michael Bracewell, Trent Boult, Finn Allen.

South Africa:

The Proteas are sixth among the ODI World Cup 2023 teams. South Africa have always choked under pressure, and this was the case in the 2022 T20 World Cup as well, where they were beaten by the Netherlands.

Even in the ODI World Cup, South Africa has always fallen short. Fans would hope this time they mend their ways.

Squad:

Here’s their probable squad:

Quinton de Kock (WK), Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, Marco Jansen, Wayne Parnell, Keshav Maharaj, Tabriaz Shamsi, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Sisanda Magala, Lungi Ngidi

Bangladesh:

Bangladesh is the seventh-ranked team among the ODI World Cup 2023 teams.

Although Bangladesh have yet to name a captain, beware of this team as they know the conditions inside out.

The pitches back home are quite similar to what they would be offered here in India.

Squad:

Here’s the probable Bangladesh squad:

Litton Das, Tamim Iqbal, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Ebadot Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, Yasir Ali

Afghanistan:

Afghanistan is the last team on our list. Most of the senior members of this team play cricket regularly in India and know the conditions inside and out.

This will help them lead their side during the ODI World Cup in 2023.

 Squad:

Here’s a probable Afghanistan Squad:

Mohammad Nabi (c), Najibullah Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Azmatullah Omarzai, Darwish Rasooli, Farid Ahmad Malik, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Hazratullah Zazai, Ibrahim Zadran, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Naveen ul Haq, Qais Ahmad, Rashid Khan, Salim Safi, Usman Ghani

Sri Lanka:

And now we move towards the last two teams, who weren’t even guaranteed a direct place in the ODI World Cup 2023.

First is Sri Lanka, which beat the Netherlands in the ODI World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe, becoming the ninth team to qualify for the ODI World Cup.

Squad:

Sri Lanka are yet to name their final squad, we now take a look at the probable squad:

Dasun Shanaka (capt), Kusal Mendis, Dimuth Karunaratne, Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, Dushan Hemantha.

Netherlands:

And with the Netherlands, we have come to the end of the ODI World Cup 2023 teams list. The Netherlands did really well to reach the main stage of the ODI World Cup as they beat Scotland and the West Indies in the qualifiers.

Their fans would hope that they upset some big team that have featured in the ODI World Cup 2023 teams list.

Squad:

Vikramjit Singh, Max O’Dowd, And Colin Ackermann, Bas De Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, And Wesley Barresi, Scott Edward, Saqib Zulfiqar, Logan Verjus van Beek And Roelof van der Merwe, Aryan Dutt And Shariz Ahmad, Clayton Floyd, Fred Klaassen, And Paul van Meekeren.

Final Thoughts On ODI World Cup 2023 Teams

The ODI World Cup 2023 teams are diverse in nature, but they are less than what they used to be. The 2007 ODI World Cup had 16 teams. By the time 2023 arrived, they had been reduced to ten.

The reason was the lack of show from the so-called minnows, which pushed the ICC to pull the plug on these weaker teams. With teams getting reduced, fans are hoping for close games, but all of that will depend on the likes of the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, who will have to play out of their skins to push the big teams like India, Australia, and England.

Every team is already in full preparation mode, with the Asian teams gearing up for the Asia Cup. The non-Asian teams like Australia and England are also in the groove, as they have already declared their teams well in advance.
