IPL Debut with Deccan Chargers

In 2008, Rohit played for the now defunct Deccan Chargers franchise. The then 20-year-old failed to trouble the scorers on his first IPL match as he got out for a three-ball duck against Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Rohit bounced back and had an excellent campaign, scoring 404 runs at a strike rate close to 148.

Rohit struggled for consistency the following season. He managed only one half-century in the 2009 IPL edition, and his strike rate plummeted to 115. But the Mumbai-born batter played a 23-ball 24 in the final, which became crucial as Chargers overcame Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six runs. He also won the Emerging Player of the Award too.

In 2010, Rohit found his groove again. The ‘Hitman’ crossed the 400-mark for the second time in three seasons. He scored 40-plus scores early in the season and registered fifties against Rajasthan Royals, RCB, and Kings XI Punjab.

Joining Mumbai Indians in 2011

MI paid $2,000,000 to secure Rohit’s services in the IPL 2011 auction. On his MI debut, he scored an unbeaten 27, helping his franchise grab a thumping eight-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils. He ended the 2011 season with 372 runs, including a terrific knock of 87 off 48 balls against Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede.

Rohit made more than 400 runs in four of the five following seasons. In IPL 2012, Rohit registered his first hundred in the league – 109* against KKR at Eden Gardens. The IPL 2013 edition saw him register 538 runs. It remains Rohit’s highest tally in an IPL season. He also led the Mumbai outfit to their maiden IPL trophy the same year.

Since 2017, Rohit hasn’t been able to go over 400 runs in an IPL season consistently. However, he has captained MI to glory in three seasons. In 2019 and 2024, Rohit scored over 400. He registered his second IPL hundred in the 2024 season. Rohit made an unbeaten 105 off 63 deliveries against CSK at Wankhede.

Rohit Sharma’s Highest Score in IPL

While Rohit hasn’t smashed hundreds like Virat Kohli or Chris Gayle, he has amassed many big scores in the league. His maiden IPL hundred came in the 2012 season. It took him 12 years to register another three-figure score in IPL.

Here are top five highest individual scores of Rohit in IPL:
