Ravindra Jadeja started his IPL career at the Rajasthan Royals in 2008. The team won the inaugural IPL season, and a few players became overnight superstars. Jadeja earned the spotlight, with Yusuf Pathan and Shane Watson being the prominent names.
The then Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne called him a “rockstar.” Not to mention that Jadeja had won the Under-19 World Cup earlier that year.
Sky was the limit for Jadeja. However, he was found guilty of contractual irregularities and was banned in 2010. He returned to IPL the following year, and the brand new franchise, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, paid ₹4.37 crore for Jadeja. However, the franchise was terminated soon after.
But Jadeja had plenty of takers, as he was bought by the Chennai Super Kings in 2012 for a staggering ₹9.2 crore, making him the richest cricketer in that year’s auction.
Jadeja continued to grow and landed with the Gujarat Lions in 2016 after Chennai Super Kings received a two-year ban, but as soon as the ban was over, he was back at the franchise.
He had an outstanding IPL career, with the only blot being his captaincy. In 2022, he was named the skipper, but such was CSK’s performance that Jadeja had to step down midway. Following this incident, there were reports of a fallout between Jadeja and the franchise owners, but he was back for the 2023 season and won the IPL trophy, where he hit the winning runs in the final.
