DC Team Overview
Delhi Capitals (DC) are a franchise that came into existence in 2019. The earlier franchise, known as Delhi Daredevils, was owned by the GMR group, which terminated the contract after a string of mediocre seasons and loss of money. Once the JSW Group took over, fortunes for the Delhi fans changed as the franchise showed rapid improvement.

The management created a new core of players, made up of young and old alike. For instance, they had someone like Prithvi Shaw opening with a senior pro like Shikhar Dhawan. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and those relatively unknown to the Indian public, like Marcus Stoinis and Anrich Nortje, were bought without a second thought.
All these tactics showed that the owner wanted the team to play all-out cricket. They also retained Shreyas Iyer as a captain, who was handed the captaincy in 2018 by Delhi Daredevils in a season that was nothing short of a nightmare.
Players were more secure now, and the Delhi Capitals finished third in the IPL 2019. Next year, they reached the finals only to lose to the Mumbai Indians. In 2021, they again finished top of the points table, summing up the fastest rise for any other new IPL franchise till then.
For this superb showing, they had many things to credit. First and foremost is fresh and bold thinking by the new management.
In 2022, Iyer moved to Kolkata Knight Riders, which affected the team’s combination. Rishabh Pant’s absence, too, had a massive impact, as the team finished ninth in the table in 2023. Though their fortunes improved in the 2024 edition, the franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs for a third straight season.
