Vijay Shankar was never a superstar. He had humble beginnings, getting just one game for CSK in 2014, as the franchise was banned soon after. He wouldn’t get a chance until 2017, despite being picked up by SRH a year earlier. As SRH lifted the trophy, the all-rounder would see the majority of action from the bench.Ā
In 2017, he got to play his second IPL game. That year, he accounted for 101 runs in four matches with an impressive average of 50. Delhi Daredevils took note and bought him for a whopping ā¹3.2 crore in the 2018 auction. And he made 212 runs in 13 games with an improved average of 53. But when he seemed to have won their confidence, he was traded back to SRH.
Shankar struggled and wouldn’t reach his peak until 2023 when he represented Gujarat Titans. Turning up for 14 games, he smashed 301 runsāhis highest-ever tally. He performed exceedingly well and proved he could bat fearlessly. He was retained for the 2024 season.
