Career Overview/ Highlight : Devdutt Padikkal IPL 2020 to 2024
Kerala-born Devdutt Padikkal was snapped up by RCB for ₹20 lakhs in IPL 2019 auction. But with a team full of big names, he was benched for the entire season.
In 2020, however, he was given a longer run. Opening the innings with Kohli, Padikkal was at his menacing best. Be it his cover drive or his hook, he looked at ease. It was a decent season for RCB, and the then 20-year-old youngster accounted for 473 runs, which had five fifties.
He kept up the excellent work in 2021, where he again breached the 400-run mark. This time, he accounted for a century! All looked good when he moved to the Rajasthan Royals for a whopping ₹7.75 crore.
Being a solid opener, he struggled to bat at three for the franchise. Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal had already reserved the opening slot. He amassed 376 and 261 runs in 2022 and 2023 but was traded to the Lucknow Super Giants for his original price of ₹7.75 crore.
